Remember Anytime

with 3 comments

It may be the contrarian aspect of my character, but for no obvious reason –say maybe a birthday, anniversary, or Mother’s Day– I find myself thinking about Mom today. Not just a passing thought, but a really robust feeling of closeness to everything that comes to mind when I think about her. And it’s all wonderful. I can think of a variety of potential triggers that likely combined to bring this on, not the least of which involves Thanksgiving and Christmas memories of childhood. So, for no other reason than today is the second day of December, I am claiming this a valid day to celebrate the memory of my wonderful mother, Betty.

  1. Xmas memory….Funny how as sweet as a memory may be, I vowed not to repeat it when I was the mom!
One of my favorite memories would be receiving a homemade gift with the pattern pieces still attached -obviously a ‘work in progress’.
Is that part of how she taught us all such a calmness? Deadlines aren’t real? MM

  2. This is a wonderful way to start my day….so many memories! My Dec memory is from the farm-Mom painstakingly placing the lead tinsel, one piece at a time, on the huge Christmas tree. A handful would be gently laid over the rung of the ladder while she tended someone or something elsewhere to return to later. It was a project that went on till Christmas day then the process reversed – tinsel was saved for use again the next year.
Thanks Tricia – I love reading your memories~

  3. My three memories…
    1. Grandma Betty patiently trying to teach me how to make Barbie clothes (No, I never caught on)
    3. Grandma teaching me to put on makeup when we lived with her in EP
    2. Her chicken wild rice soup…YUM…she used to give it to me for Christmas, it was the best gift ever
