Relative Something

There are others. I checked. But this one’s me, and I’m him.

I tend toward procrastination and have a proclivity for allowing things to dangle unfinished. It takes me a long time to get around to starting things that I don’t finish. What a lovely combination of characteristics. I season this with a fair amount of perfectionism, which feeds my inhibition to start, as well as my excuses to not finish. It’s a small miracle every time I do achieve fruition on any given task.

I won’t deny an underlying urge to somehow alter the course of our world for the better, but it is tempered by a rather significant dose of humility that keeps that urge neatly stowed in a discreet location, safe from hazards of over-exposure.

I was born and raised in Minnesota, and for the 25 years ending October 2012, I lived in my hometown of Eden Prairie, just southwest of Minneapolis, MN. It was where my wife and I raised two children, who are now grown and living on their own in the Twin Cities.

My wife and I now live near the center of Pierce County, Wisconsin, just to the southeast of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, on 20 beautiful acres that are a mixture of pasture and forest.

I love participating in and/or watching sports and music. I am a big fan of soccer and bicycling. I play guitar and sing. I write freelance and for a while co-published a rock’n’roll journal in the Twin Cities. I occasionally work.

Before starting this blog, one of my favorite trips was to the 1994 winter Olympic games in Lillehammer, Norway.  You can read about my other amazing travels since that time, to Nepal and Portugal, in archived posts on this blog. One of my amazing life experiences was being a stem cell donor to my sister who had leukemia, which happened shortly after I faced my own challenge of depression and plots of suicide.
