My Being

leave a comment »

.

I stood alone
among the trees on the hill
just outside the house
in the cold
for a moment
to look and listen
the great outdoors never disappoints
there is no fight for recognition
things just are
smoky wafts of breath rise with every exhale
resounding quiet slowly begins to yield tiny sounds
a titmouse
finch or sparrow
pecking the skin
of a nearby tree
a squirrel
moves in fits and starts
along a route
obviously used many times before
a breeze
rolls a crispy brown leaf
across the top crust of old snow
my being here
motionless
on a winter Sunday
has little influence on these woods
yet the land
the trees
animals
and breeze
imbue a universe of energies
that inspire
my being

Touching

scattered lines
of words and letters
both simple and complex
like a dream
waving at us
as they pass by
blossoming forth
in spontaneous bursts
of loving energy
exchanged in person
at festive holiday gatherings
or quietly read
at home
consumed in silence
touching hearts

List Poetry

• Make a list. It’s the season for lists.

• Use bullets. Bullet points have more “oomph.”

• Be concise. Get to the point.

• Notice the sacred preciousness of every single moment.

• Remember the simple joys of childhood innocence.

• Take care about ever being too certain. Do not be deceived.

• If it seems too good to be true, you know…

• There is still much to do, and not many days left until Christmas.

• Don’t forget to breathe.

• Reserve critical hours for sleep. Be disciplined.

• Be creative.

• Enjoy the sights and sounds of the season, even the crowds.

• Let the music ring.

• Send love to all. Remember those battling depression.

• Make a positive contribution.

• Trust your intuition.

• Know that perfect does not always require perfection.

• Allow for bundles of fun.

• Let your heart overflow with the joy of giving.

• Don’t overthink the details.

• Focus on the positive.

• Check your list twice.

• Remember to feed the pets.

• Always share a smile. It’s a universal gift you can always offer.

• Go forth and enjoy!

Revisiting Notes

All sorts of gems are hidden in the archives of Relative Something posts, and last night I uncovered a jewel to repost today. As exciting as my day yesterday was, what with my landing an appointment with a Craigslist buyer to stop by and make another decluttering purchase, and our new favorite tractor tire repairman showing up to finish the other tire (Yay!), none of it blossomed into a bigger story for me.

The single sentence above easily wrapped up the significant events of the day.

Well, I found a “Words on Images” creation from early 2014 that should fill in nicely, aligning with the oncoming bout of cold and sunny winter-like weather on tap for the next few days here.

In honor of the cat mention included in my poem below, I’m throwing in this bonus picture that Cyndie recently took of Pequenita behaving like royalty on Cyndie’s pillow.

Enjoy!

Crying

leave a comment »

.

there’s life and there’s death
and stupid funny things
that don’t even matter
happening all the time
all at once
it’s no wonder
we don’t know
whether to laugh or cry
ecstasy and agony
pleasure and pain
not always discernible
one from the other
when they keep coming
again and again
amid the hilarity
of laughing to tears
the same tears
that are shed
in a sorrowful cry
in the darkest of hours
or bright light of day
on the razor’s edge
separating life and death
and all those stupid funny things
that don’t seem to matter

Flail

leave a comment »

.

nope
just nope
flail all you want
reality doesn’t recoil
as change happens
think
about not thinking
so hard
about the very thing
that will happen
because that’s what happens
no matter what
words
get tossed around
without proper attention
to one critical detail
that has to do
with a genuine love
organic
intrinsic
divine
in its simplicity
and as real
as change

Luxury

leave a comment »

.

luxury
simple luxury abounds
surrounds
confounds
in abundance
to the point
of being overlooked
an electric outlet
a grocery store
zippers!
socks
broadcast radio
books filled with pages
words
language!
and love
what a luxury
to love

Comfort

leave a comment »

.

.

comfortable
in my warm clothes
I don’t want to get up
from the cozy recliner
to disrobe
and step
into the initial shock
of a shower
until warmth
finally fills the room
and soaks through
that momentary chill
when dry
transitions to wet
after which
soon I struggle
over how I will ever leave
the comfort
of that sultry spray
