Wrestle
.
wrestle an idea
dance with decisions
hone skills
kill hours
wreak absolute havoc
pause moments
measure goals
dash plans
let everything go
cast aspersions
voice objection
reach agreement
preach to choirs
wrest control
ask forgiveness
bask in glows

Activism
.
does activism activate?
guts wrenched again
and again
and again
against the grain
of actual activation
same result
breeds similar results
insanity reflected
in hoards responding
by pouring their dollars
into the deadly profit machines
selling automatic weapons
with a wink and a nod
no questions asked
while activists wail
in anguish and pain
attempting to breathe life
into the void of humanity
holding positions
of congressional control
ka-ching
ka-ching
tilting at injustice
against gales of greed
and an infinite devaluation
of real human lives

Noticed

shhh
I think she just winked at me
but I know
she was always pretending
aren’t we all?
unofficially
with laughter as medicine
and forgetting
that works too
reality can be made to wait
for as long as it takes
to notice
being noticed
just in the nick of time

Finding
.
looking
for the last thing
you haven’t been able to find
looking everywhere
except wherever it is
finding everything
else
resorting to looking
where it positively wouldn’t be
twice
just in case
looking for something different
to trick the universe
into revealing
what you are truly after
forgetting
what you were truly after
again
settling
for the next best thing
because it will be right
where you expected
to find it

Misdeeds
.
I’m not the one who knows
what is going on
but I can see something’s happening
in fact
it’s right there in the open
where the whole world can see
consequences are selective
whose misdeeds will truly have to pay
who of the rest gets to just walk away
until the movie ends
credits scroll up the screen
and the soundtrack solemnly plays
walking out of the darkness
we return to the bright light of day
where the news headlines blur
what was a cinematic play
from what is really happening
in the usual way
in front of our eyes
in oh so many ways
despite all the outrage
good people repeatedly convey
incriminating evidence
vividly on full display
how can there be so few consequences
for the guilty who walk free today?
