Adrift

it’s like a scene from a movie
happening in real time
sublimely
inside my tattered mind
and I can’t find the stairs
even though I look
there is nothing there
but a gap that exists, instead
in the space held by images
and I look away
somewhat desperate now
over a passing thought
of a memory gone
from that time and a place
disjoining my now
leaving it adrift
untethered from a reference
of familiarity
floating solely on an energy
that plays on a look
and lasts for mere seconds
an emotional burst
of unspoken words

Attention
.
.
allowing the obvious
to get all the attention
and energy
in quests to address
assorted issues
appearing worthy
we get nowhere
upon our treadmills
pounding out miles
fixing this
fixing that
at least we think
and tell ourselves so
but nothing happens
truly genuine
in terms of change
until we go back
with better focus
to look again
where we’ve previously chosen
obliviousness

Stuck
.
.
late at night
past the flickering city lights
the warmth of summer at the solstice
mixes gently
with the chill
that settles in the low spots
where crickets keep their beat
a time signature set by heat
or possibly the lack thereof
sleep swoops in slyly
crescent moon
hangs there dryly
where nothing ever happens
life is stuck in possibility
awaiting aimlessly
for the next wave coming
just in case
it eventually does

Winding – revisited
If everything happened according to the plan, we should have arrived home yesterday afternoon. This will be the last in my series of revisited ‘Words on Images’ creations filling in during my adventures in Guatemala. I am taking one last day to absorb all that we have experienced in the past week and a half, before endeavoring to compose the tales of our adventure for you to see here in the days ahead. Thanks for following along!
Today, “Winding,” first published in June of 2013.

Simple – revisited
During my adventures in Guatemala, I am taking a break from posting daily. To fill the void, I have rummaged through the “Relative Something” archives for a few previously published ‘Words on Images’ posts for you to ponder anew.
