Never Too Soon

In a blink of our eyes
the holidays pass
and a Monday arrives
amazingly fast
a day like all others
‘cept a new calendar in tow
feigning nothing is different
for all that we know
but hope springs eternal
and preparations begin
since as fast as it went
it comes ’round again
so ready yourselves
with all of your might
for next year’s happy Christmas
and all those good nights
.
Off Day
I’m going to take a day off from devising something new to present. In the space which that creates, I present a re-post from the past… One year ago today, this is what I came up with:

Think
think about a reason not to think about
the things that for whatever silly reason
remain easier not to talk about
with the people who really matter most
as if the things that transpired
some time in the long ago past
deserve to hold sway
in a negative way
right now today
at the critical time of now
which matters more than any other
regardless how we allow
our silly trepidations
to carry so much weight
when things that did do harm
on a scale far beyond
our ability to comprehend
continue to come back around
and diminish each individual’s worth
for every time hurt befalls one other
all people of the world ultimately suffer

If it weren’t so popular
I’d think I’ve missed out
except deep down
I know better
the shouting gives away
the utterly obvious
especially after the yelling stops
there is a bouncing, longing look
a memory of jumping fun
spastic laughter in playful unabashedness
dripping with genuine dance moves
of what it feels like to be four
for days on end
while all the shit that doesn’t really matter
riles those who give it their attention
and spirits stumble
yet nature waits
patiently
for us to notice
that conventional thinking
misses the point
and if any are made to suffer
we are all diminished
and harmony is delayed
a function of our neglect
blissful perfection
taken for granted
music
not heard
