Dream Farm

with 4 comments

When we picked up Elysa on Thursday, to take her to see the place for the first time, she told us that she had never heard the expression: “bought the farm.” She said she received some shocked reactions when she told people that her parents had bought the farm.

The log home sits on the highest point on the property, with the land sloping away on all sides. The entrance of the long driveway offers no view of the buildings and climbs upward for the first third of length, then drops down toward the level of the barn, then rises up to the house.

On the right is the view from the high point of the first third of the driveway.

  1. Re: ‘bought the farm’ – the figurative meaning may certainly express the truth in your case, for when you put your heart and soul into something, you basically pay with your life – as in something worth living/dying for. So, if on your tombstone, the words, ‘A life well lived’ are engraved, you will have fulfilled your destiny – and can it get much better than that? Yes, you are going to be faced with incredible challenges, but living a life of regret because of lack of courage at not taking the opportunities life affords you is a living death. One thing is for sure, you are now much closer to being the change you so much cherish in the world. And who knows what castles in the snow you will create or inspire others to build:-) You may add new nuances to the term ‘cool’ as in ‘super-cool’!

So is ‘Dream Farm’ the name you have chosen?

    • Thanks, Ian. I love the image of snow castles that await. I am very excited to discover what kind of snow accumulation the property gets. To learn the lay of the land.
I think I will continue to hold out for the official closing date, before presenting the name we are considering. I’m not feeling a natural resonance yet between the property and the planned name. I will keep open to the possibility. Maybe it’s too soon for me to tell.

    • Yes! And a willing assistant, or three. Maybe this helped inspire the invention of a tractor.
