Hot Fun

Last night on both of the ESPN channels we receive, soccer was the topic, at the same time! There was an extended preview of the World Cup that starts today, and a feature about US star Landon Donovan. I am so excited to see the increasing excitement over this tourney, much of it distinctly happening in the 4 years since the last World Cup. What I would give to just lounge and watch every match that is broadcast, but I have already committed to be on a bicycle trip for the next 7 days. I’ll have to read about the outcomes, after the fact.

While updating the music on my iPod to have with me on my trip –in case I require a little sound-proofing in the tent at night– I was listening to a song by Sly & The Family Stone that has really been in my head lately since I heard it featured on an afternoon radio broadcast recently. Check out this Grooveshark player to hear Hot Fun In The Summertime. This is one of those songs that I don’t think the lyrics really matter. I had no idea what the heck they were singing, but I absolutely LOVE the way they sing it. There is truly something primal in the thrill that the emotive human voice inspires. What it is, I am not quite sure. Part of it must be the combination of multiple voices in this song. All I know is that I can listen to them sing this over and over. Maybe there is a small fact of my longing for this week’s bike trip to be hot fun in the summertime and not wet time in the late spring rains…

Hot Fun In The Summertime

End of the spring and here she comes back
Hi hi hi hi, there
Them summer days, those summer days

That’s when I had most of my fun, back
Hi hi hi hi, there
Them summer days, those summer days

I cloud nine when I want to
Out of school, yeah
County fair in the country sun
And everything is cool, ooh yeah

Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime

First of the fall and there she goes back
Bye bye bye bye, there
Them summer days, those summer days

Boop boop da boop boop when I want to
Out of school, yeah
County fair in the country sun
And everything is cool, ooh yeah

Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime
Hot fun in the summertime…
